Teenage Mothers are from Melbourne, Australia. Their songs are about broken love, injustice and kicking against the pricks. The debut album is produced and mixed by Jim Sclavunos, esteemed drummer from Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and Grinderman.

Teenage Mothers’ lead singer, JK, left school at 16 to be a pro skateboarder. Then he quit the Nike team and taught himself to read. Now he’s a political activist (and  skating hard). Until he joined Teenage Mothers, JK had never sung onstage.

The band’s guitarist (and sometimes lead vocalist) is Raphael Brous. His provocative novel ‘I Am Max Lamm’ was recently published in Australia through UQP / Penguin . In July 2013, his novel will be published in the UK through Corsair.

After Teenage Mothers played eight gigs, The Kills requested them as support on their Australian tour. Last February, M83 requested Teenage Mothers as their Australian tour support.

But M83 kicked Teenage Mothers off the tour, because JK inhaled nitrous oxide onstage and did a backflip into the audience. The band replied with a blog entitled ‘Touring with M83, the meanest band in the galaxy’.

In Australia, the album will be released through Teenage Mothers’ own label ‘Shane McGowan’s Dental Records’. A debut cassette EP is released in the UK this July, through quality new indie Heart Throb
